MirabouIf you like your clothes unique and your designers even quirkier — head to Maribou in Nottinghill just near Portobello Road.

Just around the corner from the infamous  Portobello market, you’ll be drawn in by the pink building with the fabulous Victorian coats in the window made by the store owner who is also the designer. Maribou designs and makes amazing clothes in every conceivable fabric from brocades, velvets, silks and chiffons. But the real gem is those coats. Hand sewn by Ginny the owner, they’re Victorian inspired and simply elegant. I love them so much that I’ve bought three and I get compliments whenever I wear them. Although I’m not so sure about the velvet morning coats with tails….but this is London.

And then there’s the owner. Fabulously eccentric, she’s old school English. She can be quite interesting and funny (and at times  very politically incorrect), but if she doesn’t like the look of you, you are out of there. Three tips for when you walk in the door: say hello, compliment her on her gorgeous designs, and DO NOT talk on your mobile.
