Hidden on quiet street near Covent Garden behind very discreet stained glass, is The Ivy – London’s celebrity hot spot. The Ivy has been around since 1917, and is one of the most sought after dinner reservations in London. Just ask the paparazzi hanging around outside because if you want to rub elbows with the celebs (more likely Z Listers), this is the place. For me, my celebrity spotting was in the bathroom of American actress Christine Baransky. Who? Think Mama Mia or Leonard’s mom from the Big Bang Theory.
Inside The Ivy, the decor has the feel of an old fashioned men’s club and the menu offers good old ‘British’ comfort cooking like shepherd’s pie and fish and chips. I can’t say it was spectacular, but you’re really there for the prestige and the celeb spotting.
Tip: Even if your waiter isn’t around and you need a refill from your bottle of wine…god forbid don’t pour it yourself…you’ll be severely dissed by the waiter and made to feel very much like the commoner that you are!
